Okay, that’s not entirely true. Sometimes I enjoy new books, and my childrens’ library stays pretty current thanks to school book orders and book fairs.
But I’ve noticed that the more book blogs I follow, the more dissatisfied I feel, because the constant presentation of brand new, shiny, just published books (or sometimes books that haven’t even been published yet) leads to more shopping and less reading.
There is no way to keep up with all the reviews, let alone all the books being reviewed. So as much as possible, I’ve gone back to reading the way I used to: some new books, lots of old books, whatever I find in the library, things already on my shelves…I’m ignoring the hype and jumping off a few overcrowded bandwagons, and replacing “acquiring” with “actually reading.”
